Autumn and Halloween Backyard Barbecue Party Ideas

If your local weatherperson is forecasting mild weather, why not try something different for Halloween... a backyard barbecue party?

When calling your guests to invite them to your party request that they be prepared with a scary story and to come in costume from a favorite movie, television show or Broadway play be it the Wizard of Oz, Friday the 13th, Grease, Animal House etc...

If you pick the theme you should choose one that even your least creative guest can participate in.

If you have asked every one to come in costume from the television show "I Dream of Genie" you could create an Arabian theme by dressing your patio in lots of fabric and have pillows for seating and low tables to serve your food. A menu of hummus with toasted pita bread triangles, rice pilaf, lamb kabobs and baklava would be appropriate.

If it's "Gun Smoke" dress your yard up with items to create an old western jail, saloon or chuck wagon theme and serve grilled hamburgers smothered in chili, grilled corn on the cob and apple pie and cowboy coffee laced with whiskey if you like.

If you are hosting a classic Halloween party you could litter your yard with coffins, skeleton bones, ghosts, scarecrows, witches and spider webs. Ultimately, there's no limit to how spooky you can make a backyard barbecue Halloween party.

If you are having a backyard barbecue Halloween party for children and are feeling creative you may also want to have spooky food.  For your burgers and hot dogs, ditch the buns and instead immerse them in ketchup. I remember a governor who thought ketchup should be considered a vegetable for school lunches! This will give them a 'bloody' look.  You can top the concoction off with edible eyeballs.  To make these, you will need to do a search on "Halloween eyeball recipes."

For dessert, you could have something that is totally fitting for a backyard barbecue kids Halloween party... kitty litter cake.  This is another recipe that you can easily find online.  And, as weird as it seems, it is definitely true to its name.  In fact, some recipes will even tell you to serve the cake in an unused kitty litter pan.

When your meal is over your guests will probably be feeling drowsy so light up the torches and play pumpkin golf or zombie tag. Then serve hot mulled wine or hot chocolate around your fire pit while listening to each others scary stories.

With a little bit of creativity and planning you and your guests will have a fun filled backyard barbecue Halloween party.
