Barbecue With Me :: Barbecue Grills :: Barbecue Gas Grills
When buying a gas barbecue grill budget is probably the most important thing. If you spend all your grocery money for the next six months on a gas barbecue grill there will not be any meat to put on the grill! However if budget is not a issue and you think all gas grills are equal excluding the flashy stainless steel exteriors and extras you may or may not use, thus any grill will do. Not so fast! First you need to ensure that the stainless used on the grill is 304 commercial grade. Any thing less is not as strong. If a magnet sticks to the surface of the stainless steel they are using a steel with another cheaper product as well to keep the costs down. Problem with that is your new shiny gas grill will stain easily and not look good for very long.Barbecue Gas Grills

Your inexpensive gas grills have a valve for controlling the temperature with only a few holes which means you have little control of the temperature. What is called low on them is well above 350 degrees (medium). Then the burners are made of a material which on first inspection may seem heavy and thus durable such as Iron, however they will start to corrode much sooner then a burner made of heavy duty commercial grade stainless steel and if you live somewhere that is very humid, their degradation is fast. The burners are often inadequate meaning they do not cover the whole grill area so even if the grate is 400 square inches there are a lot of cold spots and you really do not have 400 inches of cooking space and you will have meat charred on some spots and not done on others.Built in temperature gauges are fine for indirect cooking methods as they are really showing you the overall temperature as an oven will. For the actual temperature of the grill area it is best to use a gauge you can buy anywhere until you are familiar with your new grill. Your inexpensive models usually have porcelain covered grates, if you clean the grill while it is still hot or even just using a steel spatula it can cause chipping and it will start to corrode the metal under the porcelain. Bottom line is if you use your grill a lot the cost of replacing the innards will be about 1/2 of what you purchased it for, if you can even find replacement parts! So it really is not just a case of having a barbecue gas grill the neighbors are envious of (if you care about those things). But it is about having a barbecue grill where you can control the temperature, use all surface area for cooking, and not have to spend hours trying to find replacement parts all in vain. If budget is not the issue you will be able to have years of great barbecue cooking and a barbecue grill that does not fall apart or look bad. Remember that cooking on a gas barbecue grill that you know, means that you do not have to retrain yourself on a new one.
