Barbecue With Me :: Backyard Living :: Backyard Swings

Whether you live in suburbia, a rural area or a big city, backyard swings are part of growing up. Installing a backyard swing set will not only make your kids happy, but will also get them out of your hair for a while when you want some time to yourself. Backyard swings are fun for all ages. I know I still go for it any time I find a adult size swing.

But they can be dangerous. When I was about 11 we visited some friends who had a cheap combination swing set jungle gym. I was using the jungle gym and ended up hanging from my ring on where a bar connected to the top. I was out there by myself and it seemed like a long time before I got rescued! I still have a scar today many years later. You need to make sure that there are not any protrusions for clothes, hair or rings to get caught on. Also not all swings are appropriate for all ages. For example, a tire swing might be great for an older kid, but it would not be such a hot idea for a toddler. A smaller swing, meant for little kids, might not be able to support the weight of the older children. Because of this, a little planning is required. Unless you plan on moving in a few years don't just buy a swing set for the kids you have now. Think about what you might need in a few years as well. Once they outgrow the swing set, they will still love to swing. Tire swings are easy to install, and lots of fun for teenagers. You just need to check the rope yearly for signs of deterioration or look for a swing set that you can change to appropiate sized seats and which is built to handle the extra weight.
